William Smith Monroe (/mənˈroʊ/; 13 Eylül 1911 – 9 Eylül 1996) Amerikan mandolist, Şarkıcı ve şarkı sözü yazarı ve bluegrass tarzı müziğin kurucusudur. Bu nedenle kendisine daha çok "Father of Bluegrass" denmektedir.

Ölümü
Monroe son performansını 15 Mart 1996 tarihinde gerçekleştirdi. Bir inme yaşaması sonrasından Nisan ayında turuna ve kariyerine son verdi. Monroe 9 Eylül 1996 tarihinde Springfield, Tennessee,'de 85. yaş gününe dört gün kala öldü.
