Bir Doktora derecesi (PhD, Ph.D. veya DPhil), en yüksek akademik unvandır ve bir çalışma veya araştırma'nın ardından verilir. Pek çok alanda bir profesör, araştırmacı veya bilim insanı olarak çalışmak için genellikle bir doktora derecesinin tamamlanması gerekir. Doktora derecesini kazanmış kişiler, Doktor unvanını kullanırlar (genellikle "Dr" veya "Dr." olarak kısaltılırlar).

Derece, Latince: Philosophiae Doctor PhD (bazen ABD'de Ph.D.) olarak kısaltılırİngilizce 'Doctor of Philosophy'den gelen DPhil kısaltması, Oxford, eski adıyla York ve Sussex dahil olmak üzere az sayıda İngiliz ve İngiliz Milletler Topluluğu üniversitesi tarafından bu kurumlardan alınan derecelerin kısaltması olarak kullanılmaktadır.
