John Trevisa

John Trevisa (Trevisalı John) (1342–1402) Kernevekeli yazar ve tercümen.

Trevisa Trevessa'da St Enoder kilisesinde doğdu ve ana dili Kernevekçe idi. Oxford Exeter Kolej'de eğitim gördü ve Berkeley, Gloucestershire papazı, 5th Lord Berkeley'in papazı ve Westbury on Trym'de kilise heyeti üyesi oldu.

Patronu için Ranulf Higden'in Polychronicon eserini kendi yorumlarını ekleyerek tercüme etti ve Dialogue on Translation between a Lord and a Clerk (Bir Lord ve bir Katip arasındaki çeviri üzerinde diyalog) ile önsözünü yazdı. Buna bencer başka tercümeler de yapmıştır, Bartholomaeus Anglicus' (De Proprietatibus Rerum) Nesnelerin özellikleri üzerine orta çağda yazılmış ve ansiklopedilerin öncüsü olarak kabul edilen eser bunlardan biridir.

Trevisanın Wycliffe'ın İncili'nin. erken yayınlarından birinde katkısı olabileceği düşünülmüştür. 1611 yılında Kral James Onaylı Kitab-ı Mukaddesin önsözünü yazmıştır . Sonradan Lord Berkeley incilinin bir dizi kitabını Fransızcaya tercüme etti, bunlardan birisi de Apokalips'tir.

John Trevisa Oxford iİgilizce Sözlükte 18. en sık atıf alan yazardır ve bir sözlüğün ilk kaynak olarak verdiği üçüncü en sık atıf alan yazardır (Geoffrey Chaucer ve Kraliyet Toplumu Felsefi İşlemler'den sonra).
