Stephen Richard Turnbull (d. 6 Şubat 1948), İngiliz akademisyen, tarihçi ve yazardır. Özellikle Japonlar ve Moğolların askerî tarihi ile ilgili yazdığı kitaplar ile tanınmaktadır.
Turnbull, ilk olarak Cambridge Üniversitesi'nde bir derece elde etmiştir. Ardından Leeds Üniversitesi'nde İlahiyat ve Askeri Tarih Bölümü'nde master yaptıktan sonra doktoralık kazanmıştır. Turnbull halen Leeds Üniversitesi'nde Uzak Doğu Dinleri öğretim üyeliği görevini sürdürmektedir. Orta Çağ konularında pek çok kitabı bulunan akademisyen, 2003 ile 2005 yılları arasında kısa ömürlü bir dergi olan ve ile birlikte hazırlanan 'nin yayın kurulunda görev almıştır. İngiliz oyun şirketi olan The Creative Assembly tarafından üretilen Shogun: Total War ve Total War: Shogun 2 isimli oyunlara danışmanlık yapmıştır. 2013 yapımı ve başrolünü Keanu Reeves'in oynadığı filminde de tarih danışmanlığı görevini yürütmüştür.
