The Sound

The Sound, 1979 yılında Güney Londra'da kurulmuş ve 1988'de dağılmış olan bir post-punk grubudur. 'ın adlı grubunun değiştirilmesiyle kurulmuştur.

Başlangıç

Bir İngiliz punk grubu olan 'ın dağılmasından sonra 1979 yılında Londra'da kurulmuştur. Grubun(The Sound) esas üyeleri (vokal, gitar) ve Graham Bailey(bas), yani eski Outsiders üyeleri, Michael Dudley(davul) ve Benita "Bi" Marshall(klavye, saksafon) dörtlüsünden oluşmaktaydı. Eski Outsiders üyesi Adrian Janes, grubun üyesi olmadığı halde fikirsel olarak katkıda bulunmak ve The Sound'un şarkı sözlerini beraber yazmak istedi. Bu arada ve Graham Bailey Second Layer adlı bir grup daha kurdular.

Dağıldıktan Sonra

Birçokları, onların hak ettikleri takdiri görmediklerini söyledi., grup hakkında, "It's hard to understand why this London quartet never found commercial success. At their best, The Sound's excellent neo-pop bears favourable comparison to the Psychedelic Furs and Echo & the Bunnymen." şeklinde bir sorgulama yapmıştır. dergisinden Jack Rabid ise şunları söylemiştir: "The Sound? Just one of the finest bands of the 1980s." Yine dergisinden Chris Roberts "U2? Joy Division? Bunnymen? They pale in this band's shadow." demiştir. 2001 yılında 'ın "Book of (Happy) Memories" başlıklı bir biyografisi yayınlandı. Aynı sene, "In Passing; A Tribute to Adrian Borland and The Sound" başlıklı övgü albümüne yayın izni verildi.
