Cain, 31 Temmuz 1966'da Mount Clemens, Michigan'da doğdu.Santa Monica Yüksek Okulu'nun ardından gittiği Princeton Üniversitesi'nde öğrenimini tamamladı. 1976'da oyunculuğa başladı.
